Valerian root is sometimes helpful. Also try Calcium-Magnesium-zinc tablets one with each meal. If you can find a homeopath, they may have some good cramp remedies. Good luck!

You need to put yourself in a mood to relax. Listen to some nice soothing music. Look at television. Read a good book.
Your doctor won't give you Valium cause you probably do not need it and he doesn't want you to become immune to it in case there is a day when you really do need it.
You must want to relax. You do not want to get hooked on prescription pills. Trust me. Especially Valium.

Yoga. I do not know what kind of pain you are having but Yoga will help over all body tension. Also if it is localized use a hot water bottle. It is extremely effective. If it is inflamed however you need ice first to reduce that then try a warm towel or water bottle. You can buy at shoppers Drug mart. Take it easy my friend.

Valium is dangerously addictive.
Try a hot soak in the bathtub.

If your doctors wont prescribe them any more then you either don't need them, something else needs tried; or they think you are facing an addiction. Look into other options besides muscle relaxers.
