Ok,
Me and my friend are 12. We would like to make some more money. We already both get allowance and we are both homeschooled. We know each other from church. Now we were thinking about starting babysitting. We were thinking it would be e-zier with both of us there. Can you give me some rate ideas? And will anybody hire a male?

Give all the advice you want.

It is easier to babysit with a friend, but only if both of you are committed to providing the best care for the children. Yes, I believe parents are happy to hire a male babysitter. For rates, you may have to ask around to your friends and to people you know who have kids to see what the going rate is for babysitters in your area. Where we live, $5-8/hour is fairly common for 1-2 kids. More kids or more responsibility such as having to prepare meals parents are willing to pay $10/hour. If there are 2 of you providing the care, you will split the pay and not each receive the $5-10/hour. If you take any babysitting classes sponsored by American Red Cross, your local hospital, or the Girl Scouts, that will help you be more prepared and will make parents feel more comfortable leaving their children with you. It is also helpful to have CPR training. You and your friend can also put together a "fun box" filled with craft projects, game ideas, books, and games that you take with you. Then you will always have something to keep the kids busy and occupied. When parents find someone they can depend on and trust, they will call that babysitter first every time. I am a mom of 4. I am a licensed daycare provider and have done daycare in my home for 20 years.

depends on the hours you want to sit. Day time I charge $10 a day for eight hours per child. Evenings $5 an hour I suggest you kids split the costs of sitting and profit. Advertise but please be very careful and have an adult assist you with selection and screening, it is a good idea to get to know the parents of the children you plan to sit and the habits and special needs of children you intend to care for.

Also before you even consider sitting find out what requirements for babysitting are in your state.

Good luck and God bless

To the person who said he isn't ready. Obviously he knows he isn't ready, that's why he is asking questions--to get ready.

I don't know what to charge but you could call some day cares and find out what they charge. You would have to charge less than them but you could use this information when quoting people prices. You can show them how much they are saving by having you instead. Also check into the after school programs that public schools have and find out how much they charge.
