I hate those ants. Honestly, we've had the exterminator out twice, bought bait traps, tried cucumbers, put cornmeal out, bleached the floors, used Ortho Home Defense, it all HELPED but we still have them. I have come to the conclusion that we live in their world. Good luck.

I live in Florida too and yep, I also had ants in my coffee maker, but these were carpenter ants and I was lucky that they hadn't gotten established in my home yet. A carpenter ant problem can mean BIG bucks.
My advice is for you to call a good professional exterminator. I use Terminix...but call whoever you feel comfortable with.
I have them come out 4 times a year as a preventative and they spray all around. I've been using them for years and never a problem. I pay about $70. a visit. It'c cheap insurance and great for the peace of mind. You might want to talk to your neighbors and find out who they use.
Some advice....be careful with your food crumbs and seal bags tightly. Use plastic containers when possible and never leave food/snacks on the counter overnight.
Florida is a great place to live but we sure do have our bugs here. Have you made the acquaintance of the fire ants yet? YEOW...now those buggers are NASTY!! They bite like crazy and their bites hurt and they leave small white pustules on the skin. Watch where you walk. The last thing you want to do is stand on a fire ant mound!
You'll want to spread something over your entire lawn to kill the colonys. I use Ortho "Whole Yard"...once a year. since I've been doing that....hardly ever do I see the nasty little devils.
Well...welcome to Florida and I hope you get rid of the ants.

Bug stop. Take the kids and pets out of the house for a few minutes, and spray around the doors and windows and around the base of your counters. Spray outside the house along the foundation. Let it dry. Its non toxic when dry, has no smell, or residue that you can tell.
It leaves a little film that all bugs wont walk across. Keeps ants out of the house, and off of your counters.
We use it here every summer for those stupid sugar ants.
Also, go outside and look for the nests. Theyre not far from the house. Pick up big rocks and other inanimate objects, when you find a nest pour bleach on it and dig the dirt up around and in the nest to make sure the bleach gets all over. Do that every day for a couple days. You'll kill them off.

I have the same problem in my house. I live in Houston, TX. The ants invading my home are usually sugar ants, they congregate in the bathroom wear the sink faucets are and sometimes hit my pantry, going for salty and sweets. I used a product from Wal-Mart, it was a white powder substance, can't remember the product. It was in the house cleaning aisle on the grocery side. Someone mentioned to me using a low grade baby powder. It smothers them. There is a spray called, Rid-A-Bug. Use the powder or spray along the edge of the carpet and wall, near baseboards, cracks, anyplace you see them entering or exiting. If all else fails, call an exterminator.

It really depends on what kind of ants u have.. if its fire ants.. by raid.. the kind with residual effects and spray it along the base boards around your house.. if its sugar ants... all u gotta do is clean with pine sol or bleach.. and make sure u keep any open foods in a plastic bag or the fridge.

Cinnamon really does work just sprinkle a little around the wall edges and the window seals and the ants will not want to cross the cinnamon

I would bet the best way to find that answer would to go and ask your neighbors. Most likely they have the same problem and have had for years. They should know best.
