I have been cutting my own hair for three years. Except for the first two or three times, the results were fine.

Yeh, I shaved my sideburns once when I was at school, I cut one higher than the other so tried to level the opposite side. I took this too high so tried again to level the first side. I finally gave up after shaving a wide bald patch on both sides three inches higher than the top of my ears. I looked like I had escaped from an institution and wore a hat for six months solid. I now visit a barber EVERY time.

Absolutely. Almost every time I've needed a haircut in the past ten (10) years , I've cut it and it turns out great. I figured out along time ago that there must be a reason why you are always turned away from the mirror when getting a hair cut. (1) They didn't want you to see if they screwed up , or (2) they didn't want you to know their secret. I wanted to know both. When I cut my hair , I simply use the little finger tricks they used and the results are the same. Sometimes it's perfect and sometimes it ain't but it saves me about $20.00 to do it myself. I will admit that I miss having a beautiful girl running her fingers through my hair ...but...?

Heh. Back in the early 90's when I was in high school, it was (arguably) "cool" to have long hair on the top, w/ your head all but completely shaved underneath.

I figured that I would save $10 by skipping the trip to Fantastic Sam's or wherever and doing it myself wih my dad's beard trimmer.

By looking at the line that was shaved around my head (thankfully underneath the long hair covering it), you would have probably deduced that I had a mild case of Parkinson's disease.

Luckily, my girlfriend at the time assisted in straightening out the line.

Looking back, it was a silly haircut anyway.

My advice would be to have a friend help if you're going to D.I.Y. your head.

Yes. I had really long hair and was sick of it. I made it into a ponytail and chopped it off then shaved the back a little. It wasn't that bad.

Yup! Cut my fringe because when it gets too long, I look terrible with it behind my ear. Doesn't look too bad and it does save me some money and time until I can go to the hairdresser's. :)

Never, I'd botch it up for sure! But also because I'm growing it out most of the time, and when it gets too long to handle I get it cut someplace and donate it to Locks of Love :)

I love my random layers, so i do cut my hair randomly and shortening the fringe and stuff, so if your looking for layers and a messy look, go ahead, if you like it straight its the hair dresser for you!

Yes and it gave a whole new meaning to "bad haircut". I wore a lot of hats.
