It's a male thing. They think they have to be HARD around their friends. It never goes away. Take a puppy for instance, if you have more than one male puppy and he is in your lap acting so sweet and gentle then all of a sudden, his other puppy pals come running, what does that puppy do? He will either start playing rough with you or jump down and start acting like a "big dog". Guys are the same they have to be the BIG DOG. It does change a little once they hit adulthood. Take care.

Because it all goes back to the 50's stereotype when the "MAN" was the boss and the "Woman" was his sidekick. More than likely he doesn't want his "boys" to think he is soft or whipped by his girl. So he gets cocky around them trying to make it seem like your his property. Either he needs a reality check or you need a new man.

Girls do the same thing. His persona around his friends is different than the person he needs to be to be with you. When he is around his friends he has to choose which. You got to see the guy he is when he is out with his friends. They don't get to see the guy he is when he is with you. Maybe you don't wanna hang with him when he is being that other guy. If so be honest and let him know.

They are trying to be "the man" and showing affection towards girls will make them look like wimps. And you know what? They never grow out of that!
