Less so than 50 years ago, especially in London. We are a culturally diverse and relatively liberal society. I come across the phrase "difference and diversity" as a catchphrase in training manuals and courses all over the place, it's very PC to be in favour of it. Mostly this is about raising the sensitivity of the indigenous community to cultures in our midst of non-UK origin, i.e. Indian (esp. Gujarati), Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, West Indian, and Irish; and in smaller numbers French, German, Polish, Italian, Somali, Afghani, etc. But it's also about such differences as disability, sexual orientation, age and lifestyle preferences.

Let's look at some examples of norms and values. Clearly there are for example some people for whom taking illicit drugs is acceptable, especially in the youth and young adult age brackets; vs a clear majority for whom it is not.

There are some people who live in an arranged marriage and some young people who will co-operate in a marriage being arranged for them, perhaps 1-2% of the UK population.

There are some people for whom values derived from their religion/spirituality are central to their lives, vs 80-90% who give little or no attention to the spiritual. (This applies across all culture groups. There are 'cultural' Muslims, Sikhs and Jews just as the majority could be called 'cultural Christians', by which I mean they live in a culture or subculture informed by that religion but they do not attend religious or spiritual activities connected to that religion. There are even 'cultural Hindus' in that sense, though it's my impression that ethinc Indians are the group most likely to engage in some religious practice such as family prayer.)

Conventional values like making money, raising a family, owning a home, and deriving satisfaction from paid work outside the home are widely held but certainly not universally. There are signiifcant minorities disengaged from each or even all four of these.

I would say the value of liberal democracy is barely questioned. For example, if you asked people (in a sensitive way designed to elicit the truth) whether they supported terrorism in current local/world circumstances, I reckon you might get a yes from 5% of British Muslims and of Northern Irish Catholics, 1 or 2% of Northern Irish Protestants, and pretty much no-one else.

Other values that would be even less questioned are the merits of universal free school education, and of the free National Health Service.

But you think about the 'norm' of marriage. Clearly it is supported by the majority. A majority of Brits choose to marry at some point in their lives, and I think it's about 40% of the ever-married who are at least once-divorced. The prevailing view is that marriage and divorce should both exist. A substantial minority, however, choose to 'live with' their 'partner' and have no intention of ever getting married. (Plus of course the 3% or thereabouts of de-facto partnerships of all kinds that are homosexual, for whom marriage, other than abroad, is not a legal option.)

"i'm wondered about England and Britain. they look to often times be used interchangeably. " - that could want to probable be incorrect then, hence they have diverse names firstly. If it has a quite some call then it probable skill some thing else. only... See very straightforward map image link below that explains proper right here. Scotland = Scotland England = England Wales = Wales tremendous Britain (or Britian) = large island on the right tremendous Britain (or Britian) = the position Scotland, Wales and England are all got here across only eire = smaller island on the left eire = the position Republic of eire (eire) and northerly eire are got here across only uk = a united states of america of international locations uk = Scotland, England, Wales and northerly eire. Republic of eire isn't portion of uk. They left many years in the past. hence there is two Irelands using a chop up of ameliorations. the quite a few things you're writing is misguided. Getting them incorrect might want to reason offence. yet it truly is the suited position to ask this stuff and to benefit. So properly carried out.
