Has sensitive eyes probably. Some players have been known to have sensitive eyes for i dont know what reason. And they might do this to keep dirt out of their eyes.

I'm not sure about Gagne but I know Sanchez has it for prescription

They offer glare protection and are shatterproof giving some protection to the eyes.
