I smoke every now and again. I'm not the typical pack-a-day-er, but whatever.
Of course it is nice to have a cigarette when you want it. Especially when you are comfortable and don't want to end a conversation or get up to go outside and smoke. However, the people who don't smoke chose not to smoke because of health reasons, most likely. Either they don't want to become sick by it or smoke already makes them sick. It's not really fair to shove that smoke down their throats when they didn't choose to have it there.
Going to smoke outside is only courteous to everyone. Even though I smoke, I don't like to do it when eating & that means that I don't want to smell it either. It's not appealing to me to eat and smell smoke, and not my food.
Smoking, unlike most anything else, affects all parties--involved or uninvolved in the activity.
{ The only place I could really see indoor public smoking would be at a bar. Everyone knows that when you go to a bar there is going to be smoke. You either deal with it or you don't go. }

It all depends on where and when they are doing it now i hate it when there is a no smoking building and not 1 step of being away from the door they light it up but i think that people should be kind enough to not smoke in restaurants and if they have someone with them they should ask first.

I believe one has the right to do with their body what they wish. However, that right ceases if I am forced to inhale their smoke via second hand. Therefore, smoking in public is not an issue. Smoking in a place where I am forced to walk through it is an issue.

I will not impose my smoke unto others in unventilated closed spaces, but otherwise, if vocal puritans don't like my farts or my smoke, they soon learn to stay clear from me - especially if they invade my puritan-free personal zone.
Am I the only one to think puritanism and righteousness have the stink of a wasted life?

I think that smokers have a right to smoke, however I have asthma and it bothers me very much. It could put me right into an asthma attack so I stay away from any place that has public smoking. My bf smokes..so as long as he doesn't smoke in my house or car then we are fine.

I hate the fact that its legal and i cant smoke where i want. Personally i wish they would just ban the *am things. They have no problem taking my money in taxes but they have a problem that i smoke, don't get it.
What bothers me more is that obesity is a more costly problem and i find it offensive when i have to wait in line for a 300 pound till of the Hun at McDonald's when they order 3burgers 2 fries 2 sodas and apple pies, now that's disturbing.

I try to stand upwind of the smoker if possible.
If they gotta smoke, they should be allowed to do it outside. I appreciate those that at least make an effort to keep their 2nd hand smoke from blowing across other people.

I'm a smoker, and I think all smokers need to be polite ones, and seeing as how tobacco is a legal substance, we shouldn't be banned from smoking in public completely - and besides, that'll just piss a lot of people off, including some non-smokers.

I am a smoker and I have to say that I would rather there be a specific area for smokers than to just go around smoking anywhere. I feel bad when my smoke goes into a non-smoker's face.
