I have a fairly small aquarium and I cleaned it yesterday. All I have in the aquarium are 4 tetras and an upsidedown catfish. The catfish always stays in the little cave I have in there, but it was really nasty, and I threw it away yesterday.( I was going to buy a new one today) The catfish is about 3 inches long.
This morning,,,, the catfish is GONE. There's no way he could have jumped out.
Could those 4 little tetras have eaten him??? It doesnt seem possible.

If you have monster size tetras.....than maybe your upside down catfish was eaten. Otherwise I would say that I doubt your tetras were the culprit.

Check the filter for your catfish. Also, I realize that you said there was no way that he could have jumped out, but are you 100% sure? I work with aquariums & have seen fish actually find the tiniest space back where the filter sits on the hood (centimeters or less) & jump right thru it. Upside down catfish are amazing escape artists.

I am really sorry you lost him. I hope that you do find him maybe in the filter & manage to get him back in the tank. Good luck!

Unless your tetras are pirahnas, (yes, pirahnas are a species of tetra) they will not attack and consume an upside down catfish. Very few fish will bother scavenger fish (they must realize that scavengers are necessary).

Like the others have said, look inside your filter and filter intake tube. If he is definitely not in the tank or filter, then he is on the floor somewhere. Do you have a cat or dog that might have eaten him off the floor?

I have found fish on the floor as far away from their tanks as 9-10 feet. Some catfish are known for being able to use their pectoral fins to actually crawl from pond to pond looking for food.

Are you sure it is a catfish? If it was a "loach" they can and WILL jump out of tanks... take a look around the floor.

If not then keep looking for him. Sometimes fish like this can be very good hiders and sometimes will bury themselves in the sand!

Check inside the cave. I killed a fish last time because I took out a cave but didn't realize a fish was inside of it. It was nasty and STINKY.

yep, did you check and find out if you could put the c/fish in with the tetras? I have a fancy goldfish and bought a regular goldfish and put in the tank, the new fish was eating the fins off my fancy goldfish.
