I'm no actor - but I know a few! I think I would suggest starting small. You're not going to Broadway without some help! If there are local art theatres, or if there is a local troupe, you should start there. Look for casting calls locally, in the paper, posted at local community colleges - some of the local theatres have Websites - you could do a search on the Web for local theatres in New York, go to their sites, and see if they have any casting calls for roles you might be interested in.
I wish you luck. Without an "in", it's probably very difficult to get started in that business. Keep your dream alive!

Go to your community theater!!! It will give you experience that will be wanted when you audition for bigger, better, more important things!! Search the internet!!! Lots of places will have weekends of drama workshops that are FULL of talent seekers. So do your BEST!! Don't forget to have fun with it and take peoples critisism as advice to make you a better actress. Don't be afraid of rejection, because hollywood's best stars face them too! Good Luck!!
