Please only answer if you wear an apron. I realize a lot of people don't have them or don't like them.

Due to the fact that I always spill, splatter or drip - I prefer the "bib" style apron. Fortunately, these type aprons are becoming mainstream because many catalogs offer very cute, fun bib aprons with designs, sayings, holiday motifs, etc. on them.

In my profession both aprons are used.
The bib apron protects your chef whites and keeps you cleaner, thus maybe saving on one extra wash. However if the bib has short strings you cannot bring the strings to the front and tie them up front. This enables you to hang a tea towel off your waist. Its great if you have adjustable neck strap so you can raise your arms easily. Bibs however don't look good if you have big stomach. It tends to make you look bigger.
The normal waist around apron is good but it doesn't protect your shirt.
At work I wear waist style as I don't care for washing my uniforms daily and as they're white can be bleached and because I don't like the restriction around my neck. At home I wear a bib to protect my everyday clothing as I care for them more, and as I wear them for shorter periods the neck strangulation is bearable.

I"m a messy cook, so I opt for the bib style (or cobbler) apron. It gives me more coverage.
