It's amazing how easy it is to remember the pill when you know you NEED to remember. You need to take it at the same time of day anyhow, so make it part of your rituals, like brushing your teeth.
There's also a new form called the Nuvoring. It's the same basic drugs as the pill, but you can insert it once, leave it in for 3 weeks, then take it off for a period. It's out of sight, out of mind and not in the way. The gals I know using it love it.
There's a patch too. Same idea but a lot of users have had some difficulty with it. My daughter was constantly queasy. Some love it but some don't.
You can get a once a month shot of depo provera. Some gain weight on it, but if you're active you should be able to prevent that.
And there's the Norplants, which are inserted into your arm and last a year.
Those are the chemical alternatives that have the best success rate. Beyond that, the condom or a diaphragm are probably the most effective, and if you combine it with a spermicide, they can be very effective. The biggest problem is not bothering to use them, or a condom break (which is one reason you back up with a spermicide).
The sponge is back on the market but the failure rate is too high for my preferences, around 20% I think.

The best form of contraception is what is right for you.
For me I prefer the pill so I can plan when to have a period, by running two packs together as I suffer from bad pains. The way I remember to take it is keep it with my make up (I've never forgot to put my make-up on yet!)
The injection can be one answer if you are worried about forgetting. The main downside is once the injection has been done, it cannot be reversed i.e. if you have a reaction to it.
The implant has the same reliability of the injection, however it can be removed if you experience any problems.
I would suggest that you speak to your GP/Nurse/Sexual health centre for more advice.
But always use a condom, as there are too many things out there that a pill/injection/implant cannot protect you from.

i personally loved the coil as when it was in, that was it- you forgot about it for what? 5 years. that's a shame that it is causing you pain. have you talked to the doctor about this as it may not be fitted properly or there may be another reason that can be resolved?I remember being told that the coil is best fitted in women who have had a child, have you? could you not set a reminder on your mobile to go off every day when it is time to take your pill? i would not rec commend the contraceptive injection- it set my off my rocker- i felt constantly P.M.T.ish.I didn't actually realise I was so evil until I came off it to get pregnant. I was told that it would take 12-18 months for my fertility to return after i finished having injections and i thought great! 'my other kid will be at school then'. No way! I was pregnant in 3 months! it worked out fine but that might not have been the case with other mums.

If you are experiencing pain from the coil then you need to see your Dr about that. You shouldn't be in pain. I had a great experience with the Depo injection after my 1st son was born. Just have your Dr give it to you every three months. And that's it. If you aren't planning ANY children, then you could think about having a Tubal Ligation (i.e. having your tubes tied) or he could concider a vasectomy. But I warn you, I had my tubes tied after my last child 3 years ago and now I wished I hadn't. I would give anything to have another child right now, but sadly I can't. So, if you concider that, think it through very well before jumping into that one. I still think the Depo shot is the best alternative.

I've taken the pill and had a very bad reaction to it. The best I've found for me is the IUD from Paraguard. This is without the added hormones. But after the doctor inserts it, you're home free for 10 years. And if you ever want to take it out, you go back to the doctor, they take it out, and you're just as fertile as before. Yes, you do get a little more crampy because there's something in there, but there are no side effects and you're protected. But it's to be used in monogamous relationships. If not, you're at risk for a PID. Hope this helps...

My mum always said the best form of contraception was to say no!!- 3 children later I've realised it doesn't work!!!
seriously I use the pill- I put it in the coffee cupboard so every morning when I have my cuppa I see my pill and take it!!
you could also ask about the injection

The pill is fab. Just set a reminder on your mobile phone every morning for two weeks - that should be enough time so as it becomes part of your morning routine. Its easy peasy.

The word NO always helps me!
Go and discuss it with your doctor or nurse. They will advise you. You shouldn't be in pain with any form of contraception.
