North Korea has nothing to lose. They would nuke USA into oblivion. But USA keeps giving them aid so all is ok. But if they ever team up with the other "slanty-eyed" nations like Japan and China, USA is done like dinner..

It's not so much fear of North Korea as an enemy, but more like fear of the repercussions of things NK might do. For instance, they are a nuclear power -- that is true. But they are also a rogue, reclusive nation. They've made their desire to not make any changes real clear. They don't want people to know what they're doing, yet have times when they want attention (hence, the recent missle tests).
The thing is that they're unpredictable. They can't directly attack the USA, but they could attack South Korea or Japan. The results of such an attack would naturally bring a lot of other countries into the problem, the USA included. Pyongyang knows this. They also just might be willing to launch a nuclear attack against one of these other countries, and the results of that would be unimaginable.
Still, they are being watched constantly, and the USA does know about them. There are surveillance systems in place. Believe me, if Pyongyang ever tried to launch a nuclear missle against someone, it would never leave the launch pad. However, the war would be on at that point.
The USA is definitely NOT ignoring this threat, but is rather showing restraint until NK makes some move one way or the other. The USA is not going to start anything with them, but are ready with a swift and decisive response if NK should make a serious aggressive move against a neighboring country.

What is there to fear? We fear for our friends close to NK. NK is an economic weakling, and the brothers and sisters of North Koreans now living in South Korea are an economic powerhouse! Perhaps the leadership of NK should wake up and smell the coffee. They are so selfish they sacrifice the well-being of millions of their inhabitants just so the leadership can live a half-way decent life. How long will they be able to hold down their citizens? The leaders hope to hold the citizens down until the leaders die. They don't care what happens after they die.
The atomic bomb threat is silly. If they were to use it, they would be annihilated as well. It would be a tragedy, but the country is a tragedy now. I feel very sad and sorry for the good people of North Korea.

The USA is waiting for North Korea to collapse from the inside. This will probably happen in the next 5 years if the political standoff continues. Their people are starving and while it may be possible to politically brainwash a population there will come a point when enough is enough. We are now in an age of global media and while this may be blocked to the general population their academics, scientists and politicians will have limited access. Look out for defections from UN delegations and you'll know it's about to start.

North Korea(NK) is a threat. Middle East(ME) is a threat. The ME has shown that it can import their threats and violents here. We had very little assets in the ME. As long as we are there, the violents one stay there. It gives the MEs a target to focus on. Or would you like them to focus back on us here? Don`t worry, they will still try something here. So we must stay FOCUS and ALLERT here. Stay forever vigil, least you fall a sleep. Remember Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Catched us with our pants. You know it hard to act tough when you are naked.
We have many more friends and assets near NK. Don`t think China is holding NK chain? Without Chinese support, NK would have collapsed long ago. It a dog and pony show. Just what PRC angle anyway?

here is my opinion on the matter. we are scared of korea. they have nukes nad they are unpredictable. while as in the middle east they dont have nukes. the realy reason i think we are there is because of the oil. most of the terrorists come from afghanastan anyway. and sudam husein supressing his people is not the reason we are. that happens all over the worl. but this whole weapons of mass destruction, and terroosit scare and what was going on in the middle east threatened our major supply of oil. because like i said stuff like this happens in little countries all over the world. only difference is they dont have oil. so we went there to secure the oil and make sure nothing happened to it, the side thing though was getting sadam out of power and establishing a democracy/ but we should be much more fovused on korea because in all honesty they are the biggest threat no only to the united states but the rest of the world. they have nuclear devices and they continue to make them.not to mention they have china to back them. plus another reason we are afaid is that japan is close to korea. and japan makes most of our technology. so if japan gets crisped then our econmy takes a huge hit

The US doesnt want to step on China's toes in the process. While North Korea is considered an outlaw nation, same as Iraq was, they do have the nominal backing of China for being a "communist" state.

from history - in the wwii - we learned that if you are not ready to go on war - it will come to you...
but on the other hand - atomic bomb is not the same...
but if north korea will see that u.s.a. is afraid - she will win without a war.
so the question - who afraid less...

I don't think so. In my view, it's vice versa. It is North Korea that is afraid of all the other countries, including the US (well, except China). They look to me like a hunted down animal that knows that death is near and inevitable so it bares the claws and hisses and tries to scare the hunter but it's all in vain. Not that the whole world is trying to hunt down NK. It's just that the regime like theirs is always failed and rogue in this world and it has to defend its vulnerability by threatening everybody.
I think Japan's afraid of NK. They are too close and too used to safety.

North Korea lacks the economic stability of Iran and Iraq. We could probably topple the regime without military intervention. The real difference however is that one country has vast resevres of Oil and the other has lots of fish.
