Dark Romantic is also known as Gothic. It is usually a horror story with old castles, a maiden in distress, a hero there to rescue her from the evil one, thunderstorms, cob webbed ceilings, dark, dank places; good prevails over evil. Two classic Dark Romances (Gothic) novels are FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley and DRACULA by Bram Stoker. The romantic novel has the characteristics of Romanticism: man is basically good, the common man is worthy, very descriptive writing, adventurous writing, takes place usually in the past, glorifies war and heroes, emphasizes the good in human nature. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, IVANHOE, Danielle Steel's books, and THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS are all examples of Romantic novels.
