People have asked what you would do if you found someones wallet or purse stuffed with money. Most people say they would hand it in. Have you ever lost yours with large amounts in it and had it returned.............or not?

I have two stories about losing my wallet. One time in central London I was pickpocketed by a thief. It took me a while to notice but then I started shouting really loud to everyone and a guy down the road slyly tripped him up and then kicked him really hard in the ribs. It was great. And I got my wallet back! The thief got away but I was very grateful to the bloke so I bought him a pint.

One other time I lost my wallet through pure stupidity. I was very hacked off as it had £50 in it and all my cards. I cancelled all my cards and wrote the whole thing off. Then two days later I got a call from the local police station and someone had handed it in, in perfect condition, with the money in it! The police had even gone to the trouble of getting my number from my driving license. Brilliant. These days it doesn't matter so much as the bank is liable for your cards, so you just cancel them. But it was really good to know that there are people who are honest out there.

If I found one with £5000 in it I can't say what I would do, but I know for certain I would alwys return the wallet as it might belong to one of the people who helped me before.

I lost my purse once and as soon as I noticed I went to the police station and it had already been handed in! However, I was a schoolgirl at the time so probably didn't have much money.

I also found £80 on the street once with a wallet and handed it in. (I was also a schoolgirl then and it seemed like a lot of money).

Maybe us Londoners are just honest?!!

I had it happen to me last christmas, it scared the life out of me, I had some change in there but I was more concerned about my visa card and driving license. I realised very quickly and went to the bank who then discovered somebody had already handed the purse to the police station. When I got there the police had cut up my visa card because they didn't want to be accused of any wrong doing, when I got it everything was in there, I was SO relieved, i'm normally so careful with looking after my purse but my mind was on other things as my mum was in hospital so I must have some how dropped it while in a shop, I just wish I knew who handed it in so I could have thanked them.

No, I haven't lost my purse or wallet, but I did find a wallet once in the Post Office with $57, some credit cards, subway stamps, etc. I took it home, removed all the credit cards, pictures, and things, and mailed them to the owner's address listed on the driver's license, (with no return address on the envelope), and a note thanking them for the $57 "reward" for finding it.
I know, I should have turned it in right there at the Post Office, but I didn't. Oh, and I kept the wallet for quite a while too, it was a mustard yellow color vinyl retro- 70's looking one. I think Karma came around and bit me for it too, because someone broke into my house and stole my TV later on.

i had a phone call one morning, some guy found my wallet down a 40 foot pit in a steelworks in sheffield.... i vaguely remembered stumbling around the area the night before, drunk & lost.... so to drop my wallet down a pit i must have been pretty close! scary stuff,

anyway, i told the guy to have £50 out as a reward and drop n the post to me

it arrived, with just as much money in as when i lost it... the bloke never even took the money out for stamps!

very rare honesty, there was about £200 in there so i wasn't expecting to see it again.

I had my wallet when i got to the car, while driving i realised my wallet wasn't in my pocket so starting ringing people at work to check my desk and the car park as it had the money for my mortgage payment in, i was feeling well gutted, when i pulled up and got out of my car i saw my wallet on the floor, it had been by my feet the whole time, i was so relieved and felt so stupid.

I once lost my purse in a mall-- I left it sitting in the food court. It had a small amount of money in it, and, after panicking for a while, I went to lost and found. Someone had turned it in.

I wish more people were like this...

I have not but you have hit on a pet peeve of mine. A few of my female friends are into shopping and get caught up in the moment and leave their purses in the cart open, ladeda, shopping away and when one of these gals got to the cash register her wallet was gone, with in 45 min they had filled up their car w/her debit card and it took weeks to get all the information replaced. Not to mention the pictures that are gone forever. Girls the reason there are straps and zippers is to have you use them. Another girl left her purse in her car and came back to find it gone, another horror story.
