The term "galenics" is derived from the Greco-Roman doctor Claudius Galen. The personal physician to Marcus Aurelius systematically established effective dosages for drugs. By doing so, he created the basis for modern medicines. This means specifically that basic components are developed to formulations for:
-Solid pharmaceutical forms, e.g. tablets
-Liquid preparations such as solutions and solutions for injection
-Semi-solid pharmaceutical forms such as ointments and suppositories
