Hi-For the last month, everytime I try to go on the internet at home (dial-up), it starts out connecting normally, but after one minute my connection speed drops to nothing. No pages will load then.

I have windows XP and have run virus scans, as well as spyware scans with Spybot and AdAware. They do not find anything.

It seems like there is a program on my computer that hogs up all of my internet connection, although I cannot find it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find this program and get rid of it?

Any tips will be helpful. I am ready to pull out my hair!!!!

Thanks!!

Do run your Spyware & Adware scans in Safe mode - I find that they find more problems that way.

Also download & run CCleaner (free) which removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space.

You may want to check your ISP connection speed...

Having Windows XP and using Dial-Up connection till last month? How lucky you were! Think seriously about switching over to DSL.

It could be Windows automatic updates...try turning them off. Also, check your Task Manager to see what is running when it starts going slow...if there is something that is using the Internet, try closing it and see if you can find the one that is causing problems.

It could be simply your ISP(internet service provider) sucks...have you even thought about calling them? That is the first thing I would do if you are sure you have no viruses or spyware.

Being on dial-up, your internet will be slow anyway.

I wouldn't have dial up, but that may not be your problem. Try cleaning your hard drive, delete some cookies, etc.
