The Lord has said by small things great things are accomplished.
This is a help to me when I feel unimportant: It is a favorite hymn of mine:
I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go
Resolutely
31243, Hymns, I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go, no. 270
1. It may not be on the mountain height
Or over the stormy sea,
It may not be at the battle’s front
My Lord will have need of me.
But if, by a still, small voice he calls
To paths that I do not know,
I’ll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in thine:
I’ll go where you want me to go.
[Chorus]
I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord,
Over mountain or plain or sea;
I’ll say what you want me to say, dear Lord;
I’ll be what you want me to be.
2. Perhaps today there are loving words
Which Jesus would have me speak;
There may be now in the paths of sin
Some wand’rer whom I should seek.
O Savior, if thou wilt be my guide,
Tho dark and rugged the way,
My voice shall echo the message sweet:
I’ll say what you want me to say.
3. There’s surely somewhere a lowly place
In earth’s harvest fields so wide
Where I may labor through life’s short day
For Jesus, the Crucified.
So trusting my all to thy tender care,
And knowing thou lovest me,
I’ll do thy will with a heart sincere:
I’ll be what you want me to be.
Text: Mary Brown, 1856–1918
Music: Carrie E. Rounsefell, 1861–1930
Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of the Lord.

Patriotism is a quality, and not some deed or action. Out of this personal quality, action will naturally flow out when needed.
If you are really keen to observe, try to look at leaders, especially the trade union leaders where, in some big company, mill, industry etc., where people are scared to protest, the crisis would bring out a born leader and the 'normal' leader (politics oriented) has to move out, and seemingly impossible is accomplished. It is good to find appreciation for people who do something useful for country. But doing one's job well, maintaining sincerity, honesty, loyalty, unflinchingly, itself will get noticed big way, and will be a potential threat to corrupt people around you. The need for action will fall into your lap very soon with so much corruption around ! Just try to retain courage, tenacity, and sense of sacrifice, and above all a calm intelligent awareness to make sure that no action goes waste !

Young people can join together and sit and discuss what they can do for their immediate neighbor hood . keep politicians and their wards and relatives out of it. In the present day India there is not a single politician who is honestly serving the people who elected him. All their ambition is how to continue their dynasty in politics so that the income tax department can be kept at bay.
Go to people and ask their problem and with the co-operation of the people solve the problems locally. never expect any help from the government because it is not the government of the people.Of course the local politician will try to butt in and engage the police to harass you. But Gandhigiri will surely succeed in the end.

Start with small steps. Have you seen that commercial where a whole string of good starts simply by a man picking up a baby's toy and putting it back in the stroller? Someone sees that, and does something nice for the next person and so on.
Practice random acts of kindness.

you saw rang de basanti today??!!?? where have you been living all this time?...anyway, i felt like a useless individual too after watching it the first time. just try to be a better citizen...you don't have to change your job...start with small steps...vote rightly, don't litter, save water, conserve electricity, help the needy, oppose extreme right or extreme left point of views, try and educate a child, respect your country and it's citizens......there's sooo much that every body could do.
best of luck
have a great life...

Inspiration may come from any quarter, it is how long you can sustain that tempo to do something for the country, is what matters.
