Hamsters tend to be active at night, so his behaviour is normal. If you notice that he's been burying things then you know he's fine. Like all young animals, they sleep a lot and play for short periods of time - and some are more shy than others, so it could be his personality making him hide away more. My hamster is out more after 9pm, and then I can hear him during the night sometimes.
Make sure you talk to him and offer him treats when he's awake and he will get used to you.

i'm sure he'll be fine - hamsters are funny little things and they do sleep alot. they also take a while to get used to people and being handled.
maybe the noise did scare him a bit - try and keep him somewhere quiet in the future, but i doubt it has traumatised him for life.
I had alot of hamsters when i was younger and wouldnt recommend taking them to the vet unless they are really poorly - vets cant do alot for very small animals in my experience.
give him some nice, strongish smelling food to tempt him out
and get him used to being handled by getting him out for short periods

Just leave him for a couple of days and see if he is ok when you go to touch him put your hand in slowly and let him come to you, ive not long had my hamster and he was quite at first but now he is used to loud noises and everytime he hears me go into the room he comes out to see me.

If your hamster's got one of those little plastic homes in it's cage take it out. Let your hamster get used to building its own nest and acclimatising to it's surroundings. If you don't you'll never see it and it will be harder to domisticate. We did this with our Syrian back in May and now she's as friendly as anything. Make sure you handle your hamster every day as well and it will soon be out running about and into everything.

DONT PANIC, hamsters are shy little things, will be fine im sure just not used to the noise or may just be getting use to new cage and people etc. Hamsters love to burrow and bury things one thing that i thought helped was buying a burrow box, a big round plastic box filled with sawdust that my little bubbles could dig in it was great. you can buy them from any local pet shop or make one yourself but make sure its not cardboard ortherwise he will chew his way out he he.
Hamsters do sleep a lot are generally awake and nosiy when you want to be asleep tsk, gently introduce yourself to him, get it used to your voice and smell if that doesnt work take him to the vet just to be sure and put your mind at rest but im sure sure that it will be fine. ENJOY..

we`ve had our Hamster a long time h`s nearly three now but when we first got him he was very nervous keep him somewhere quiet for a few days till he settles in and don`t maul him about too much .hamsters are nocturnal so you`ll not see him in the day they don`t like being woken up either give him bits of fresh food they like that and they always hide every thing it keeps them busy don`t worry he will be ok

Aw bless! I'm sure he's fine. Not quite the same, but we have Gerbils & they sleep in the day too. They also love digging and burying stuff! Sounds pretty normal behaviour to me :o)

Hamsters only come out at night and make a hell of a noise if you listen. That bloody wheel is a nuisance

no hes probably fine, just play with him when he is awake. he is only a baby so the noise is new to him, he will be fine when he gets used to it. if you are still worried move him onto another room if the noise level gets a little high, like the bathrooms, that can bee good if its cool and they like a change of scenary.
hope that helps
