My son and his wife are having a really tough time right now and may have to give up their son for a time. I would like to take him but without some sort of finacial aid I just cant do it. Is there a way to become his foster parent and at least keep him in the family.

I’m not sure of ‘legalities’ but I suspect you should have financial entitlements as a carer… Carer’s pension or whatever.
Perhaps you can make enquiries through welfare organisations in your area.
If you don’t get the responses you are after here, try asking the same question in the Politics & Government - Law and Ethics Category.

Good luck… I hope all goes well !!!

Can your son help you finacially?? Are the courts asking them to give up their son?? How do you give up a child??
How old is this child?? I don't think you have to become a foster parent. I would start with getting in touch with court house. See if they have atty. that give advice for nothing or a minimal cost. If you get temp. custody you might be able to get some financial help from welfare. Do what ever you have to to protect this child. His parents have let him down, don't do the same!! Get a job, get 2 jobs if you have to, show this child what Grandma is made of!!!!!!!!!!

I was just in a similiar situation. My nephew and his girlfriend had a child in July they couldn't take care of her because of drug problems they both have. All I had to do was petition the court for temporary guardianship of her. It costs $45, and if the parents write a statement saying that they would like their child to be with you as guardian you should be fine. When I got guardianship of her I went to the state to get whatever I could for the baby. It was called relative pay, basically its child support from the state and the parents pay it back. I live in New Hampshire, I hope that this works wherever you may live. Good Luck.

being a blood relative you do not need to become a foster parent go to the local dhs that took your grandson and tell them you are the child's grandmother and would like to take custody generally they will release the kid to you after a short interview and a check of your home for safety issues..they will pay for any furniture needed and they will will allot you vultures for clothes and food etc good luck and good for you keeping your grandson out of the twisted system

Your son and his wife have to voluntarily sign custody over to you. That's the easiest and cheapest way. The three of you go down to a lawyer's office together and sign the papers. Then you go to a court and a Judge rubber stamps it.
If they aren't willing to sign, then that's a whole different ball of wax. You have to prove them unfit, and take them to court. It's going to cost you thousands and you are probably going to lose. IF you can get the children's services agency on them, get them on your side, that makes it much easier.

go to see a lawyer, some offer free legal surgeries, check out local paper. you need to apply for parental responsibility which will allow you to make decisions on you rgrandson's behalf, parents still retain parental responsibility too. also apply for a residence order at court which will make your home his home. speak to your local social work team as they may support you financially as a kinship carer. you will be entitled with a residence order to apply for child benefit. good luck.
