Would like to know typicaly how many miles one can expect to get out of the fuel pump before it goes out on a 2000 Ford E-250 cargo van.

Most fuel pumps are located in the fuel tank now, making them a joy to replace. They also always seem to go after you have just filled the tank. The company I work for has a fleet of Ford and Chevy vans. Talking to the mechanics, they tell me that the fuel pumps are the most common thing they replace next to tires and brakes. I can't relly say how many miles for sure, but does your pump "whine" when the van is at idle speed? This is usually indicative of a pump about to go out. A way to extend the pumps life is to NOT let your tank go below a 1/4 tank. The pump uses the fuel to help it stay cool.

When you get that little bitty pump out you will see. It was amazing it lasted this long. And F-250 trucks with dual tanks double trouble. Some owners report only 40,000 miles between trank removals. Other owners who use only one name brand gas station never have problems.
