has anyone ever been to or hosted a murder mystery party? are they fun or just confusing? do they work or does everyone just get pis*sed and muck it up?
i bought one at a car boot, just wondering if they're any good.

They are hilarious! It really depends which brand you buy and how outgoing the people you invite are. I always reccommend Murder a La Carte brand to folks who have never done one before.They give you very explicit instructions so everything goes smoothly--all the way down to menu and music! They have scripts that are funny even if someone is saying the words monotone!! Make sure you have a camera handy--people are encouraged to dress as their characters and there are some very funny things that will occur! :) Do it-- you'll have a great time!

Murder mystery parties are great fun. You can learn more about this genre and the various ways to play at http://www.MyDarkSecret.com. They also have information about how to write your own script and have some free scripts you can play online.
The most important thing is to let yourself go and become the character ... don't worry too much about following the script, just be ready to "ham-it-up" ... over the top characters are so much fun in a party setting.

You ought to watch the movie; "The Man Who Knew Too Little.' Very funny plot about Murder Mystery Parties.

My aunt has a friend who does them every year at xmas and they always have a great time!
my aunt always makes an effort in real life and looks well turned out however it would appear her friend is slightly jealous because she always makes my aunt the maid or the like!!!

I've done one and it was great fun. Give people plenty of warning so they can dress up. Don't get too drunk though, or save most of the drinking for afterwards.

I went to one many years ago. My impression is that they are fun if you have a flirtatious group of people who enjoy the role playing. Guess I would think through what sort of crowd you would be inviting... you probably have a sense of what they would enjoy?
