I have mixed feelings about it.
I am a female, early 30's, in the south. If you feel comfortable with it, please give me a general overview of your "stats" as well. (yes, this is part of my research for a social science project)
Thank You.

I think the best thing would be to take the decision out of Americans' hands.

If we had Hilary Clinton running for the Democrats and Condoleza Rice running for the Republicans, that would be amazing.

Plus all the racist misogynist voters who would like to vote Republican would be faced with an almost impossible choice!

I think at this point in our history the people of the USA are
more interested in the quality and characteristics of the individual rather than gender or ethnic background.

For most of us, citizens of the USA, the Democrats have moved too far to the left. Even the moderates of the party can't separate themselves from the more liberal views and practices of the extreme left. If the moderates, more like Joe Lieberman, make their moderate views known, they then become open to allegations of being more of a Republican than a true democrat.

The other viable option is the Republican Party. The GOP, however, is viewed as practitioners of "Cowboy diplomacy". Anything other than extreme conservatism is seen as too liberal.

So, I think in this terms election, a prospective candidate must strike an appeal towards normality. S/he must strike a cord with the majority that reside in the middle of the political landscape. Neither party can put forward a candidate that would be acceptable to party favorites. This will be an election of the less evil, so to speak.

Some people that have an appeal to a more moderate crowd of voters are Connie Rice, Hillary Clinton, Senator McClain, and Colin Powell. Individual strength and persuasion will win the day for the next presidential electoral season.

The United States is ready for anything.

The part that scares me is that voters may vote for someone because they are a woman, because they are black, Hispanic, paraplegic, diabetic, Republican, Democrat or some other illogical reason. To return to the original question, I think there are women who are viable candidates on all sides of the political spectrum. I am currently aware of two I could heartily endorse.

As "stats" go I assume you want age, political affiliation etc.

I am 58
Registered as "Independent with no political affiliation"
I was forced into retirement during President Clinton's term.
I live in California, USA
I have political leanings in all directions, frequently for unconventional reasons.

Can't think of anything else that might help. Good luck on the project.

I don't think so. Hilary aside, I don't think the country is ready for a moody, eccentric president. There have been several successful queens in the past and present, but I don't believe that women should govern a country. I'm a woman. I know how inconstant we can be. A country doesn't need that. Besides, someone makes us angry, we'll probably blow them up and what would that do for continental relations?

Oh, my stats. I'm a 31 year old married woman. No children (yet). I was raised Southern Baptist and I am Christian. Not sure if that has anything to do with your research, but it has A LOT to do with who I am. Good luck with your social science project!

Yes, definitely.

Having had G.W. Bush in office for six years really makes America ready for a woman president.

You see, the fear has been that a woman will make decisions based upon emotion, hormonal fluctuations, etc. But Bush has made it clear that testosterone is more trouble-causing than estrogen.

Women like to get all the facts and exhaust all other options before war. But a man, especially one who worked for the oil industry, only needs to see an excuse to mix things up in the middle east.

I believe you will find an increase of willingness to vote for a female president by 20% since the year 2000. And again, it's Bush's doing. He's got too much cocky testosterone running rampant in his blood stream, too much oil between his fingers, too many bombs falling from his *** and too many lies coming out of his mouth.

Give the war button to a woman, and it will collect dust for a while. Rich people will start paying their fair share. Poor, hungry and homeless people will finally get a little attention as well. That's what we need.

I am 37, male and live in US with my Filipina wife (not to be confused with the gal who just answered above).

I don't think America is ready for a female president. So many people are of the belief that the man is the ruler and the woman takes care of the house and kids. It's just a fact. Maybe someday America will be ready for a female president but not right now.

I'd be fine with it ... I mainly care about whether the person agrees with me on the issues. Margaret Thatcher, made a great leader in Britain so I see no reason why a woman couldn't do a good job here.

I looked this up, and 92% of Americans also would vote for a qualified woman presidential candidate from their own party. That's pretty much how I feel. Here's the link:

Does a man think better because he has a penis? Does that make him more qualified? Base your opinons on a person's performance and ideals and not whether they are, the in the words of Queen Elizabeth I, crested or cloven. If the person can do the job, why not? Look at the mess our crested Mr. Bush has gotten us into in Iraq? One could hardly do worse than him regardless of gender. Vote on the candidate, not his or her genitalia.

Not yet. The US is still too conservative overall. It will happen eventually and I'm sure we'll both live to see it (I'm 49), but the candidate will have to have the best qualifications and solid leadership values. And I somehow doubt she will be a Democrat, their history is too twisted and ... "experimental", as it were. She'll be either a Republican or an Independent, in my opinion.

I think that the U.S. is definately ready for a female president. All we have had are white males. We are a diverse country, we need to have diverse presidents. I also think that it is time that we have an african american president. All people born in america arew americans and therefore should be able to be president.
