One website says that when it comes to broken washing machines, socks are the greatest cause of jammed up pumps (next in line is ladies' thong underwear.). And it suggests using small garment wash bags or socks clips, if this is a constant problem for a washing machine user.

The garment bag is fine to use especially for the panties, when I worked on them it was one of the most frequent things in the pump. They are like nylon or silk and seem to float more. Socks of like the argyle type can go over the top too. Cotton things seem to stay in the washer. The tubs are designed to keep things inside, feel the inner tub and you can feel the lip there. Water drains differently by model, some pump out first and then spins. The water while spinning goes through the holes in the inner tub into the outer tub and then into the drain tube to the pump.

think about it- ever noticed how one of every pair seems to eventually disappear? I always wondered where they went, haha. I have never heard of these stats but I have noticed things disappearing when I use public laundry as well, so I do have a small garment wash bag and special undergarment detergent, and it comes out so much better! You can get them at victoria's secret. Even if that's not accurate, I recommend washing them this way just to protect them. happy washing!

YES. Small things get sucked down the drain tube and stuck in the pump. I have a wash bag and when my kids were little I would safety-pin their socks in big clumps so they wouldn't disappear!

i dont think thats true, at least on most washing machines ive seen, the holes for the water to drain are really small, even the smallest g-string is way to big to go through those holes,

maybe small pieces of clothes could pass trough a dryer if the filter is missing....
