Heros whilst fighting wars, and a burden when they return

I don't think they're heros. Our soldiers were supposed to, under the Nuremberg standards, refuse to commit Bush's war crimes. Their weakness and willingness to kill without moral reasoning renders them the opposite of heros.

I was raised in a military family, grew up all around the world and had no hometown, in service to the USA. funny thing about living all over the world - it makes you think iraqis deserve murder no more than we do. MY father's in deep despair over what bush is doing to our country - as are many Vets.

Lastly, the repubs don't support the troops - have you already forgotten people raising money to get their soldier sons body armor? have you already forgotten bush cutting off the housing allowances for men discharged from the military, yet still hospitalized, throwing wives and kids into the street? words, words, words - that's all republicans deliver.

800 attacks a week against our guys in Iraq. led into the valley of death by the lying, thieving, torturing, mass murdering gangsters in the white hosue. used and abused. not as culpable as bush, but still culpable. Our soldiers are supposed to refuse illegal orders.

I suppose this concept of forgetting about soldiers once they arrive home is not much different than how we forget the fallen women and children who leave husbands and fathers who beat wives and their children, once out of the dangerous house no one realizes the damage control that is involved in the after math.
It is more cost efficient to think they are free, the job is done, and the life long effects from the trauma they endured is not an issue.

Mainly, I think its a matter of money, supply and demand and the cost therein to rehabilitate men women and children, and it becomes an industry that creates jobs on its own, and many exploit that industry without finding the real answers, because in the end that is in fact what war amounts to in most cases: a boost to the economy...

Real victims avoid such transparency and the story of war and heros gets lost in the shuffle besides which the world wants another war down the road so....

We can't spend money on rehabilitation of the people, just more gun power ? What if we simply sued the negligent country and took that money to enhance the original victims of the crime instead of adding to the carnige that already exists ?

It's been that way all thru history , except in dictatorships, where the military keeps the people in line .
People have the misconception that in peace the military just lays around and does nothing but drink beer and chase women .
i'd love to see some anti-military politicians go thru a months infantry training at Camp Lejuene N.C. in July or August .
Talk about screaming.
" Senator , we're going for a little walk . 25 miles and you have to carry this 80 lb. pack , carry this rifle , wear body armour and a helmet ! "

This is nothing new. Prior to WWII we had a smaller army than Portugal. It's like police, nobody appreciates them, until you need them. Partially it's human nature, partially it's complacency (we know we can ramp the military up in times of need), but also it's politics. There are certain people in the U.S. who absolutely hate the military, they wish we didn't need it, but I think even they realize that without it, their lives might be completely different. So they keep it around, at a small level and try to ignore it.

Because simply, they tend to loose the war. Does anyone actually win a war?!? Deary Me, you know there has only been 2minutes of peace in the 20th Century?!? At Coventry Cathedral in the UK they have a black cross, once there has been 24 hours of peace all over the world they will paint that black cross white. I'm guessing 20 years at least before they paint that cross?

Because it is easy for people to say I support the troops fighting in Iraq, just to make themselves look like they care. It's all about self gratification, nothing to do with honoring all soldiers no matter where they reside.

That happens world over. In the euphoria of victory or war hysteria, we shower our richest praises and promises are galore. Once, the euphoria dies down, reality sets in. The honoured soldiers are dumped and they have to fend for themselves.

I THINK IT IS BECAUSE THIS WAR IS LOOKED UPON AS ANOTHER VIETNAM WAR AND THEY ARE TREATING THE SOLDIERS WITH THE SAME CONTEMPT AS THEY DID BACK THEN AS BABY KILLERS AND MURDERERS.

BTW I DO NOT THINK THIS WAY, THIS IS JUST WHAT I HEAR ON THE NEWS ON BOTH THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT REPORTING.
