Captain James Cook...he originally proclaimed to be a boatswaim of Blackbeard....supposedly J.M. Barrie fashioned him after the King of England (clothes) and primarily Englandish....hair...etc.

In the book, Barrie said that even to utter his real name would set the country ablaze - was he really that important?
But (according to wikipedia) Barrie also wrote a short story about Jas Hook of Eton. Same guy? And what kind of name is Jas?

He was born with a hook. The croc ate the first hook, then he got a new, bigger one. Before he was promoted to Captain, he was called Lieutenant Hook.
