Most of the people that deserve what is regarded as celebrity status will never be heard of in the fourth world.(The fourth world is the media in case you did not know.)
We have people like my neighbour - he tended his father (and gave up a career to do so) through a twenty eight year illness. He never once asked for help although was glad to take several annual holidays while the rest of us mucked in. Barney (not his real name) now trots off to the pub for a couple of hours every week and thanks God for his rich and rewarding life.
I'm incapacitated now and he runs to the shops for me every Saturday. Now there is a real hero. Can you see any of your fourth world 'celebrities' even considering doing anything like that?
Note Barney is only one example we have dozens of them and none want perks or priviliges.

A Famous person..so if this is the definition of celebrity then Darwin must have been the celebrity of his day.
EDIT: Food for thought. If we were not so shallow as human beings there would be no celebrities in the modern sense of the word.
Unfortunately folk like Barney mostly are hardly ever acknowledged outwith their own communities, for their kindness and help.

Hello there, i really do agree with you on this,and what they get paid is ridiculous to say the least,there are so many unsung Hero's out there that do deserve the right to be a celebrity,just like Barney it really does make me upset and angry,thank you for your very good question

If you feel that strongly about "Barney" why not put him forward for the Honours List, he may just appreciate that some one thinks he is worth it, and from what you say, he does.

A celebrity should not include anybody to do with reality TV. It hsould be singers, actors etc who have really erant the right to be famous.

ther are people that need to be known by everyone even if they have to make fun of them selves but people like your neightbour cant leave without his family I just want to say that people need diferent things in life to be happy and there is no reason to be against it but you should better find your hapiness and make from it your reason of leaving
