Goto:
Start Menu> Control Panel
(Note you might have to go into "My Computer">Control Panel if you use Windows 95, 98, or ME)

Then go into: Regional and Language options> Languages Tab
Now click the "Details" button.
Select "English (United Kingdom)" from the drop down menu.

Now click the "Add" button. Select "English (United Kingdom)".
Click "OK"

Now select the USA keyboard, and now click remove. Your computer will advise you that the changes will take effect when you restart your computer.

Restart your computer.

@ and £ will now operate as normal.

Mac or PC keyboard? The @ key on a mac has always been Shift+2, the £ in Shift+3, the $ is Shift+4

i had this problem ages ago, what i did was very complicated:
at the blue bar at the bottom of the screen on the right side there should be a couple of little boxes one says EN you need to click on there and change the language from american to UK and then i dont really remember what next but there is a few tabs, if you click on them you should be able to figure it out, any more questions just email me

Control Panel
Regional and Language Settings
Check you have "English (UK)" selected
Then click on Languages tab, then Details button. From here you you can specify your keyboard layout

Yes you have the us setting!
At the bottom right of the toolbar you should see an icon with the letters EN, left click on it and select EN (United Kingdom).
Thats your prob sorted!

Look in control panel for your regional settings. Once you have installed and selected UK English, delete the US options entirely. If you don't it will sometimes revert to US for no good reason.

press at the same time on both givens below without + sign

altgr + Q for @ symbol.

altgr+2 for £ symbol

go to control panel - keyboard - input locales

simply select UK
