Hi, I have a $34 fish tank from Petcetra and I have three kinds of gold fish in it. The tank comes with a pump but it does not keep it clean. Can you buy bigger pumps so that you dont have to clean you tank every week.

Cut your feeding in half, and don't clean the tank too thoroughly. Beneficial bacteria will develop within the aquarium that will consume the fish waste (ammonia) and turn it into nitrites. Other bacteria will convert the nitrites and turn it into less harmful nitrates which you keep from building up too much by changing 25% of the water once a week with water that has been set aside the night before (chlorine evaporates). Gravel vacuums help remove excess fish poop, but if you remove too much of it, the bacteria start to die off.
This cycle takes time to develop, so be patient.

For goldfish you need a minimum of 10 gallons per fish and you need a filter that pumps at least 10x the volume of water in the tank. So with three goldfish you need at least a 30 gallon tank and a filter that pumps 300 gallons/hour. You should still do 20% weekly water changes to dilute the microbial count and the nitrates that will build up over time.

With good food and clean water, goldfish grow quite large. Depending on the type of goldies you have, you will probably need a tank even bigger than 30 gallons in the future.

Hi,
How big is the fish tank and how big are the fish sometimes that can be the reason. You can also buy other kinds of cleaner fish or snails that will clean the tank and the fish. You could also try changing you fish food one that do not cloud the tank it will say it on the back of the can or just ask a vet or a fish expert.
Or maybe the pump might be broken.
Good luck

Probably need at least a 10-20 gallon tank to keep it cleaner. You can get an under gravel filter that does pretty good with keeping the tank clean.

Change some of the water each week and clean off any slime from the side of the tank. Change the filter sponges regularly.

I've lost a goldfish this morning. Do a partial water change every two weeks. Gold fishes are little poop factories.
