As long as you are over 18 and you have photo ID to prove it, you'll be able to get into any bar and/or nightclub in Australia.... ie the ID doesn't have to be Australian, just as long as it has your photo and date of birth on it....

If you are under 20 you can get an "over 18" card from the traffic authority in the state you are in to prove that you are over 18.. you will need your passport for this...

alternatively you can always take your passport out with you but I wouldn't recommend this as losing your passport is the most frustrating experience I have ever had...

I have seen learner permits turned down many times in Melbourne bars. Carry a full licence or a passport.

If you are traveling to Australia from another country as I think then your passport will work.
