Absolutely not. I had much higher odds than 50% and I never once considered abortion. I now have an amazing little boy with Down syndrome who is the light of my life. He is loved by all who know him and is happy and very "normal" despite what some of the people who have answered this question might have you believe. I would challenge anyone to spend a day with my little boy and then look me in the eyes and say I should have terminated. I honestly feel that people who use the excuse that children with Down syndrome cannot have a good life are hiding behind their own selfishness at not wanting a child that they perceive as less than perfect. Remember, there are no guarantees in life. You could have a perfectly "normal" child who is later rendered physically or mentally disabled...you can't terminate them then. We are planning to try for another child soon and if this next child has Down syndrome it won't matter in the least.

I hope you are not faced with this decision and, if so, don't let other people influence your decision. Do what you think is right and in your heart. Personally, I would not abort. Even if a child has a deformity or disease, they will still bring you a great joy and you will love them more than anything. I know there are a lot of things to consider and worry about, especially the child's future and when the child grows old and the parents are no longer around to care for them.

why would you get an abortion. just because your child may have down syndrome does not mean the end of the world. they are very bright and can suprise you as to how much they can do. there is a reason for everything. so no, i would not get an abortion because of down syndrome.

If your child has a 50% chance of having it then it also has a 50% chance of being normal. I think I would opt not to have an abortion.

there are test you can have to determine how high the risk is if your having a down syndrome baby, but it`s very risky and can result in miscarriage, having an abortion is a very difficult decision and until your in that position no-one can say for sure what they would or wouldn`t do. They can say what they`d like to think they`d do, but it is a very personal decision, it takes a speacial couple to knowingly have a down syndrome baby. Id like to think i wouldn`t have an abortion but i hope i`ll never have to make such a huge decision. xx

No i personally would not as I would always wonder about the other 50% chance of it being normal, I would probably still go ahead anyway if i knew it was going to be a downs everybody is different.

Yes i would. Not because i would have a hard time raising that child but because the child would have a very hard life. Why would i ever want my child to suffer like this? I don't usually support abortion but in this case i would do it. My cousin's child has Down Syndrome and i know how hard it is.

Yes.
I would not become optimistic here as 50% is a very high probability in medical terms. A child with Down's Syndrome will have a miserable life once his/her parents are no longer alive to care for him/her.
Sorry for being so blunt.

50% is pretty good odds........isn't there a pretty good chance of ALL unborn babys to be born with something wrong with them?
thats like saying all should be developed in test tubes

Yes I would..no question asked.I dont care what people say about how "bad" it is to have an abortion and "kill"the child...they are NOT the ones who have to live with it for the rest of their lives.I think that taking the risk of keeping it and the child ending up with Down Syndrome is SELFISH from the parents part...I have seen kids with down sydrome and have seen the parents raising those children. It is the most difficult thing in the world.WHY in Gods name would you want to subject your child to that??????THINK before you answer!!!
