I do this myself unfortunately... My entirely non-scientific theory is that given our brain is a bit clever and stores masses of information, you can associate certain traits - speech pattern, the way they walk, even what they wear - with people you *do* know and dislike.

I often do this and my instincts are always right although it is rare i take an instant dislike the times I have done it they have turned out not to be nice people.
I think our personalities are made that some of us are a lot more tuned in to people than others.
Last year I met someone who everyone I knew said was fantastic and when i met them they sent the hebegibies through me. I turned out to be right they were a total con and the personality they portrayed to others was not their true persona as others found out. However I knew on sight without one word. I would like to add I did give that person a chance but I was right in the end. It could simply be a clash of personalities we do not all get on with people that others get along with.
Family and friends are always shocked at my instincts and the accuracy.
I believe it is your sub conscious knowing that the person is not right for you.trust your instincts.

Everyone does this.
Maybe they remind you of someone else you hate or they have a physical characteristic that you dislike. Some people you do just have to look at and you can tell that they are full of themselves or nasty. Its human nature to judge people on first appearances despite what they may or may not be like as a person. As long as you give them a chance to prove themselves, then what is the harm?

I don't know the answer, but I do the same thing. If I dislike a person on sight, I never change my mind, even if they turn out to be Mother Teresa, I just don't like them. And its not just adults, I meet some kids that I don't like on sight. Who knows why? Maybe in another life, these people were our enemies or did something awful to us..that would explain it.

Instinct. A little bell goes off in your head and tells you to keep away. There is no reason, it´s part of your survival instinct. It´s what prevents you from getting into the car of a serial killer when you´re hitching a ride, or leave a party that turns into a blood-bath three minutes after you´ve left. Always trust your instinct, it´s your guardian angel.

Some teachers told me that try to give them a smile even either they don't like you or you don't like them. A smile from you would make someone feel good even they are enemies.

If i feel dislike someone, just take some time to see who they are before giving a final judge.

Most likely because they remind you of someone you have known and disliked in the past. You may not even remember who that person was.

It's probably from past experiances of other people similar to them, like you could have heard that it's a short fat man and instantly remember your year 5 teacher whom you hated. I do it to, people with a certain name I think of others I have known with the same name and avoid them!

70-90 % of the communication between us is non verbal, i.e. even if you didn't speak to that person the way he/she's dressed, the place where is standing, how is standing, what is doing, how she/he is looking, the the voice, the smell, the pheromones- all that is sending you an information a great part of which is subconsciously analised and can influnce your opinion.

Could be chemistry, could be a look or behavioral trait that reminds you of someone else, even if only subconsciously... I don't know but try to beat it- loads of people have told me they hated me at first for no reason, but are now really good friends!
