Actor is the politically correct term now for all actresses. Similar to how author is now used instead of authoress for female writers.

Actor is male Actress is female, so Meryl Streep is a female and therefore she is an actress

when I went to school we were taught ess on the end was feminine of a profession unless the rules of grammar have changed she is an actress.

Well, she's an actress. However, in some unflattering pictures she does look like a he.
