IT's spelled
LA HERRADURA.
You will be between NERJA in Malaga and ALMUÑECAR in Granada...
You have the caves in Nerja within a 20 minute drive west, and Almuñecar about a ten minute drive east.
When you go to Nerja, go down to the Burriana Beach, and have a paella at the beach restaurant called "El Ayo"...the most famous in the area. Then go visit the caves, its less than ten minutes away, just by the main road, and once there you will need about an hour more or less to do the visit to the grottoes.
If you are staying nearly 2 months you'll have time to do a lot of things... Drive to Velez Malaga where you will find a nice shopping center (EL INGENIO) just off the main highway, and from there go inland to Frigiliana and Competa (you can buy some of the best Malaga wine there), Alhama de Granada..a lovely little spa town up in the hills near Granada...Then from there, go on down to Granada itself... You can't visit the area without doing the visit to LA ALHAMBRA...one of the most magnificent places to visit in all of Andalucía. Then do the rest of the city, the cathedral, etc...
Almuñecar just beyond La Herradura, has some lovely beaches, the ruins of a small fortress/castle at the top of one of the two hills in the town... A lovely little town square with the City Hall on one side.. There is a nice park called "El Majuelo", and a small parrot park nearby, just off the beach. And also an Aquapark, though this late in the year it might already be closed for the winter...
There are no theme parks in the area...Unless you want to go a bit further away...
In Estepona on the other side of Malaga you have SELWO, which is an animal park with the animals in semi-liberty (except the dangerous ones, of course). It's really lovely, takes nearly all day to visit properly, has some wonderfula animals...Try to be there by 10 a.m. (opening time) It's about a 90 minute drive from La Herradura...
Or if you continue east to Almeria you could go to the western show in Tavernes... It's the site of the filming of westerns back in the 60's and 70's. They have refurbished it and turned it into a nice attraction, with stuntmen simulating typical scenes from a cowboy movie. There is also a small zoo your 4 yr. old would enjoy. That is also about a 90 min. drive, but in the other direction...you drive to Roquetas de Mar and then turn inland to Tavernes,
Then you have all the towns along La Costa del Sol....Malaga, with its Museo Picasso, Cathedral, etc. Torremolinos has a nice Aquapark, Benalmádena has Selwo Marina, with a dolphin show, parrot show, etc., an TIVOLI PARK, which is an attraction park. There is also a buddhist Stupa worth a quick visit...and the Aquarium down in Puerto Marina. Mijas Pueblo with the "Burro Taxis", and great views of the whole coastline from Sierra Nevada all the way to Gibraltar (another place worth a days visit if you want to travel another 90 minutes west past Marbella. Marbella has Puerto Banus where all the BIG yachts and fast cars are. A nice shopping center called "La Cañada", the old town with the small winding streets, the city port, etc... Fuengiirola has some lovely beaches, and a nice zoo also. Plus another good shopping center called Parque Myramar.
And this week is the local fair, which starts this coming friday night. The best days being saturday and sunday. (7 & 8 oct.)
Also October 12th. is a national holiday...It is going to make for a long weekend, and there will be a lot of people on the roads...Be careful!
Enjoy your visit!

The Manfreds. The song was even called 5-4-3-2-1, which I think was very nice of them.
