By definition, shouldn't "average" mean there are just as many others who are more intelligent and less intelligent? Or equal numbers of better looking and less good looking people? How can EVERYBODY be "above average" in everything?

Also - So many claim to look younger than their ages, yet why doesn't anyone claim to look older than their actual years? Do they not realize it?

I agree with some of the others. No one wants to think they are inferior. My husband and I play this game just amongst us. Are we better looking than that couple? Mostly we are not. We admit it. We are almost 60 for one thing and we each have quirks in our looks but so does everyone else. We are not over weight and for that we think we are above average and we both still have nice legs so that's something.

I think we are average in intelligence, below on some things but maybe above on some others. My husband can build or fix just about anything. He built our house, rebuilt a Corvette we had once, built a 14' tugboat from plans and then a quarter scale replica of that.

I am a decent artist and a terrific speller (but I can't type worth beans). I am pretty good at judging people and am really good at giving everyone a fair shake.

So, does any of that make me above average? Sometimes, in comparison with others. Other than our silly, private game, I really do try not to compare or criticize other people's intelligence or looks unless it is to praise or as in looks, for fun or to commend someone's nerve for looking the way they choose to look.

Remember, Albert Einstein was dyslexic!

oh my god your soooo funny. I luaghed out loud! I think that when a person looks at themeselves, they see not only outside but the inside of themselves. I know some butt-ugly people on the outside but they are so nice and humble and gracious people that you love them and feel they are so beautiful people that others might think your on crack if you say they are beautiful. This is a thing that can omly truly be seen from the "eye of the beholder", not because of TASTE but because of the KNOWLEDGE of the person. As for how a person claims to look younger than their years ets, I have no clue. Look at my pic. I am 35, and on the 15, i will be 36. I tell people all the time this, and I FELL 35. But, I am told I look 25-to about maximum 28. Who CARES?!?!?! I will loose my outer beauty one day, but I KNOW I am a wonderful, loving, caring mother and person and that is what matters to me, and that I have friends who love me deeply for me, not my facial beauty. Oh, and I am NOT that smart, I *AM* wee below average in intellegence but I make up for that in EXPERIENCE,lol.... Good luck in your quest for knowledge

There are no stupid people or dumb people in the world, why would you want to call yourself below average and actually say that you are stupid or ugly, Everybody - well why not, where is the rule that says you have to be ugly and you have to be under average looking or below average in everything in your. Have you got a problem with intellegant people and good looking people, If you have just deal with it.
People can see themselves in any way they want, and if that is not the way you see them then it is not their problem, but yours

Simple enough, its because self-deprecation is not attractive and we all hope to find a mate someday. Confidence is a trait that most look for in the opposite sex.

Because people are just a little biased. ;o)

Seriously, though, how many babies have mothers who tell you "(S)he's above average intelligence for his/her age"?

I think alot of people do, hence thay sell themselves short. especially women who feel they dont have anything to offer besides the physical. low self esteem is often the cause of promiscuity and other forms of self abuse so prominent in the modern world. sad bt true. in my opinion
