Whatever.

Those programs any machine will work basicly as long as it can boot the OS.

I would reccommend 1Ghz+ chip and 512MB of ram and a 80gig HD

which every new computer will have atleast that standard.

Well it totally depends on what type of work you are gonna do with it.Next it depends on the type of Stuff you wish to choose as Hardware. Well the major differentiating Factors are Processor Manufacturers. You can go for Intel or opt for AMD. I will give you a more or less idea....

Processor:----Intel Core 2 Duo Core 1.8Ghz Above or AMD Athlon FX 3200+ or above.....

Motherboard:----Compatiable Intel motherboard with the Processor or in case of Atlon Prefer the ASUS Motherbord with Nvidia GE-FORCE chipset. Just prefer Nvidia in case of any motherboard since the Graphics quality is very good. The alternative is ATI Radeon chipset fitted into the above mentioned Motherboards. But some games do have some compatibility problems with ATI Chipset. Be sure to check about the Number of Slots for RAM expansion and the other expansion slots and the inbuilt Graphics Memory must not be less than 64MB.....

RAM: Minimum is 512MB DDR II if not compatiable(with motherboard) then DDR I. But I would recommend that you get 1 GB of RAM.

Hard Disk: Go for the Seagate SATA(Serial ATA 10,000 rpm) HDD with 80GB of Data Storage Capacity. If you need more then go for the 120 GB SATA.....

Optical Drive: This the age of Heavy Duty Storage Capacity and DVD so get a DVD Writer(Dual Layer). Prefer HP if not available, get SONY but don't opt for Samsung or LG.

Floppy: It may look like Floppy drives are obsolete but they are a must since some Drivers still come in Floppy Drives. So a standard 1.44MB Floppy Drive is must.

Cabinet: Since modern day gadgetry requires extra power thus the heat is more. SO it is better to go for a Cabinet with ample Holes in the Body for the heat to Escape. You must check that the minimum Power Capacity of the SMPS in the Cabinet must be 400W.

Monitor: Go for the LCD TFT one. Cost is a bit high but the screen is flat and there is no UV RAY tension like CRT monitor. Your Eyes will be better.

UPS:Any UPS with atleast 20 Min Battery Backup...

Keyboard: Depends on your Choice but opt for an Optical Mouse.

The Above cnfiguration should cost around 700 U.S $ including TAX.........

Stay away from the Celeron chips and the Sempron chips as cpu's. Get a "Vista ready" motherboard, 1 mb RAM (maybe more,) SATA hard drive, gigabit network, and a 16X DVD burner.

Take a look at the Dell E521. They start at just over $300 and they should work for what you want.
