Try looking at dell. They have some good low-end machines for what you want.

Try http://www.delloutlet.com

I bought two Dell GX520 with Celeron D 2660, 80gig/256meg for less than $300 each. It is indistinguishable from brand-new. Added some more memory.

It is quiet, fast enough for my purpose, and quite durable. Cover pops with just one lever so easy to maintain, also. 3 year ON-SITE warranty when you need it comes standard.

If that is all you want to do on the computer then I would say that what you are using at the moment is perfect for your needs, try formatting the hard drive and reloading the operating system.
