If my computer was built and sold with windows XP as its operating system, will it still work if i format the hard drive to dos (on another computer) and then install windows 98?

Might, just make sure all your components are Windows 98 compatible, some of the newer stuff isn't.

Yes of course it will work, XP is only installed to save time of you having to install the same, don't know why you would want to change if you so badly want to change why dont you change to windows 2000
