Agree with everyone else, but have useless fact for you anyway - they're actually orange, higher visibility and easier to find... I'll get my coat... :)

Money my dear, money... the plane company people would rather risk the lives of many then spend a few bob on a plane made out of the black box. I guess if the plane were made out of the black box though then it'll just be constantly crashing anyway from the weight... vicious circle....

The plane would be far too heavy to take off. The box weighs quite a lot. So the engines just wouldn't be powerful enough to get it off the ground. Although testing has gone into creating a stronger lighter material for such things...

The black box is made out of loads of different materials that strengthen and reinforce the structure of the box, the plane couldnt be made in this way!

The plane IS made out of the same stuff, except that the orange paint used to paint it with (really) is too expesive to use all over , and it is the paint that makes the box indestructible......Biggles

Black boxes are very heavy for their size. If an entire plane was made out of it, then it'd never get airborne.

This exact same question was asked on Oprah the other day. It's because the plane would be too heavy and wouldn't be able to take off. Not exactly rocket science, is it?

It would be too heavy and now the black box isnt even black its orange and just so you know it stores all the flight path data.
