My second toe is LONGER than my big toe. Does that count? Not as many people have their second toes longer. I believe it makes your foot fit into pointed shoes better.

As far as the big toe, if you look at a picture of the musculoskeletal system, you will see that the big toe is part of a series of connected bones that run the length of the foot. All the bones in that lineup are larger than the bones of the other toes. So it is apparently accurate to say that balance is a factor.

If you have this affliction, then I should see a doctor as soon as possible.

2: In early history, this was a way for hunters to help track you by 'reading your footprints.'

3: Later, it helped the makers of shoes ('Cobblers') to decided which shoe went on which foot.

4: Through the advent of selective breeding, the 'large toe' was eradicated, thus making the Left and Right divisions obsolete, and so made the Cobblers very happy.

If it was the same size as your other toe,s you would fall over, you would have no balence. Don,t mock the big toe, without them both your life would be VERY difficult, and you would not be able to find furniture in the dark.
