pyrabas is having a laugh
dont RUN format - it will attempt to destroy the opearting system on the PC

best reboot is a reboot / reset button on the PC
then three finger salute (pressing Contrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time - sometimes these are called Ctrl Alt Del)
then removign the power cable, leave it about 10 seconds then reconnect the power and turn on the PC as normal

if that faisl to work consoder getting a W98 CD or rescue disk to wake the system up from another source

I assume you mean when it locks up. I usually hit alt-f4 in hopes that I can terminate whatever program has frozen. If that doesn't work alt-control-delete and then try to kill the program there. If still no go shut down through the same method in task manager (alt-cntrl-del). If nothing works at all you are then forced to do a hard reset by use of the reset button. If this does't respond, hold the power button in until the machine powers down completely. If that doesn't work, (i've never experienced this) you would have to flick the power switch on the back of the power supply to off or even unplug the damn thing if you don't have one of those either.

If the machine won't start up after this you'll probably either need to go to safe mode and figure out what to do from there or use a win98 startup disk which you can make in the control panel somewhere, add/remove programs I think. The win98 startup will load cd-rom drivers and boot you into dos where you would more than likely have to reinstall windows as your only option. Not saying that your computer is that messed up.

To reboot, or reset, a Win98 PC, you can perform either a "warm" boot or a "cold" boot. A warm boot is done either through the Win98 Start Menu > Turn off > Restart or by using the Reset button hopefully located on the front of the PC. A cold boot is really powering down your system by turning it off through the Win98 Start Menu > Turn off commands or by using the Power button hopefully located on the front of the PC.

As you've no doubt found out by now, there are several ways to "reboot" your system, some of which involve specialized knowledge to avoid damaging your system, ie., booting from a Startup disk and performing an accidental format.

if you mean how to re install everything deleting the win 98 on the hard drive this is quite simple. first of all you will need the win 98 floppy disk, if you do not have one you can make one by going to the add remove programs ad at the top select make start up disk.

secondly make sure you have the win 98 setup cd you can also use this to start the setup.

insert the setup cd in to the cd rom drive and make sure your bios is set to boot from cd rom before the hard drive, then when your computer restarts it will read the disk and start the setup sequence.

select the option setup win 98 and follow the instructions, it will prob tell you that primary partition has windows on it and continuing will erase all data, if this is what you want then continue with the prompts.

but be warned doing this WILL erase everything so make sure you have any software installed and that you want to re install on disks. good luck

On the front of your computer you should have a reset button just press it and reboot your computer. If that does not work try alt/ctrl/del. or go to start, turn off computer and select restart.
