I have a great idea for a movie. The story is original and funny. My writing skills are average. I know nothing about script writing. I am willing to share my idea and a co-writing credit with an experienced script writer. At the same time, I want to protect my idea so that it isn't stolen from me. How should I proceed?

First, take some screenwriting classes, or even creative writing classes. A good book to get is "The Screenplay" by Syd Field (renowned screenwriter/professor of screenwriting).

Then, take some filmmaking classes, good screenwriters just don't write for the screen, they learn about the filmmaking process. Get a good "filmhead," watch as many films as possible, take note of dialogue, storyline, etc.

Get an agent. A credible agent.

If you REALLY want to pursue this (screenwriting is one of the most overlooked/mistreated roles in filmmaking), go for it.
