The answer is NO and YES.

When the movie was made and came out in the theatres, Brokeback Mountain did not actually exist. My wife says, according to news she saw, since then a group of people in Vermont did or are trying to name a Mountain and call it Brokeback. They are at http://www.brokebackmountainvermont.com

Best I can tell you right now.

As others have said - it does exist. Sometimes we get forced into situations where we have to live in a way that makes others happy rather than ourselves due to extended family isues, work environment etc. There are times when you can love someone but only get a few rare moments to truly share it and that is what I saw in the movie. Even when Jack died and Ennis met his parents, it was obvious that Jack's mom understood the conflict but his dad did not - pretty much like the world is: split on whether to accept or not. Even in those few moments they shared together, they may have gotten more fulfillment than some people get in a lifetime. I think that Ennis character also showed the struggle a lot of people go thru when they try to have it both ways, or can't admit internally they are gay or bi until it is too late.
