I have almost choked while eating and it is a very scary, maybe you need to talk to someone to get over this fear. Try maybe eating foods with a soft runny consistency so you can't choke on them to build up you confidence, make a point of never talking while you eat and eat slowly and take your time, don't feel self concious about doing so, remember your health and safety come first, good luck.

Never heard of this medication, but have you had a swallowing evaluation done? May be the thickness or texture or something else about certain foods you're eating are causing this and a swallow eval would find this out. Ask your doctor.

Wow..scary. You say this happened 2x before. What was the common factor? Distraction? The food itself? Esophagial spasms? And most importantly what has your doctor said about it>

Start off light - go for some ice cream, yoghurt, milk and then work up to breads and pasta until your confidence has been restored and any injury to your throat has healed.

Learn the Heimlich Maneuver. You can do it on yourself. And teach those around you that you come into contact with daily.

Chew your food really well so that there are no pieces left to choke on.Soups and bread soaked in it, or soft foods first and then progress to more solid foods later. Remember to chew really well..... that's the key.
