..I'm no dream analyst but i'll give u my opinion anyway....it could mean that u have been thinking very clearly about things in your life or maybe u hav to clear your thoughts but it seems that u kno how u need to do things to get 2 where u wana be coz the repeated exercise of goin to the surface for air and goin straight back down again shows your prepared to 'dive' into the unknown and kno when to 'get the air' when needed...Alot of the dream books ive read, say that when we dream of a member of the opposite sex..its showing a side to us that we aspire to be like but in your case with Jack Nicholson..u said he went for a swim too...i think it was just confirming what you already kno..that if u wana do sumthin, u will do it...sorry not much detail but as you become more aware of your dreams your own interpretation is the best....

Water represents emotions. If the water is clear, you are happy about something or someone in your life. If the water is dark or dirty, you are confused. The Jack Nicholson part could be a "father" figure, or maybe you recently saw him in a movie and he was in your subconscious.

It's best if you try to interpret the dream on your own. Pick out the most significant parts and think about what the symbols mean to you. For example, if I had a dream about a dog and I am very afraid of dogs then, the dog in my dream probably wouldn't be a very good thing. But, if I didn't fear dogs then the dog symbol most likely wouldn't be bad. Because we all have different experiences, dream interpretation is most successful when you do it yourself.

Water
To see water in your dream, symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. Water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. It is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. If the water is calm, clear, then it signifies that you are in tune with your spirituality. It denotes serenity, peace of mind, and rejuvenation. If you are splashed by water, then it represents your need to be revitalized and more expressive. To dream that water is boiling, suggests that you are expressing some emotional turmoil. It also may mean that feelings from your unconscious are surfacing and ready to be acknowledged.
To see muddy or dirty water in your dream, indicates that you are wallowing in your negative emotions. You may need to devote some time to clarify your mind and find internal peace. Alternatively, it suggests that your thinking/judgment is unclear and clouded. If you are immersed in muddy water, then it indicates that you are in over your head in a situation and are overwhelmed by your emotions.
To hear running water in your dream, denotes meditation, reflection and pondering of your thoughts and emotions.
To dream that you are walking on water, suggests that you have supreme and ultimate control over your emotions. It may also suggest that you need to
Pool
To see a pool of water in your dream, indicates that you need to understand and deal with your emotions. You need to dive right in. Alternatively, a pool may indicate your need for cleansing. You need to wash away the past.

Please do not be offended, but gosh, so many theories about one straight-forward dream. That's why I do not go into dream-translation stuff; it's far, far to foggy and confusing. You're more likely to get a straight answer from normal Horoscopes.
As for your dream, have you considered a straight-forward answer? Perhaps you have an interest in becoming a swimmer and it's time to take it up :-)
