computer speed isnt really affected by hard disk capacity, unless its a disk intensive activity (ie an application is opening a program or a lot of data is being saved

the only things that can slow a computer down are programs running at that time

if its slow on general use then my first guess could be malicious software, do you run an uptodate antivirus software & firewall (if not why not). Id want to run somethign like SpyBot or Windows defender if nothing else to seek to proove what is running is legit

There are several things that will contribute to this problem.
Firstly, have you neglected the usual routine maintenance of your P.C. - deleting temporary internet files, deleting cookies, registry repair & defragmentation, using 'Scandisk', hard-drive (HDD) defragmentation, anti-spy, anti-virus, etc ? If you are not sure about how to 'muck out' your machine have a look at my website page at:
http://www.bumperbuffer.co.uk/7pcmaintenance/pcmaintenance.html
Secondly, your problem is most likely to be due a lack of memory. You may have reached the limit of your RAM, especially if you have less than 512Mb.
You can check this easily by bringing up the 'Windows Task Manager' (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and selecting the 'Processes' tab. If you are not sure what each process is then I recommend you make use of a free utility from http://www.processlibrary.com/ that will identify them for you. A quick look down the 'Memory Usage' column of the Task Manager will show you what is going on at any particular moment. Load the game and see how much memory it demands.
You can easily add more RAM. Have a look here: http://www.crucial.com/
Use this company's tools to find out what you need and how to fit it.

There isn't really a way you can fix it. The more stuff you have on your computer, the slower it can get. You could always download a NOD32 or something to search your computer just in case. But I think it's just because you have a lot of stuff on your computer. Maybe try deleting some things.

Try getting an external hard drive and have her move all of her Sims 2 games/expansions/downloads on that so it will not interfere as much on your c: drive. This will also make it easier for her to transfer her sims to her own computer if she eventually gets one.

The more you have on your computer, ie games which take a lot of space on your hard drive the slower your computer gets. You may need a bigger hard drive.

Delete SIM's, buy a better game, the problem should be solved, and people won't be laughing at you anymore.
