Every time you fall ill your body immediately starts producing antibodies for that particular illness. When you are a kid you have no antibodies to start with, you produce them as you go along. Now that you are older your body will be able to battle illnessess more easily because of the recurring antibody use.
When you start to get really old your antibodies will be broken down and you will fall ill more easily again.

The older you get, the more immunity your body builds up. It has "seen" most of the germs and infections so will only become ill when it encounters new germs for which it has no resistance........ watch out for Bird Flu !!!!!

we only catch the same cold one time - when we are through it we are immune to that particular strain of illness.
older people have much more developed immune systems in this respect....meaning they are not susceptible to anything they have had in the past, so they do not 'fall ill' as often as someone who has not been through so many illnesses or colds.

Your body developed antigens to those common illnesses.
You may have lucked out being sickly as a kid, 'cause it will give you awhile of (somewhat) immunity.
It will all catch back up eventually, but your childhood illness correlate with your adulthood health.

Your immune system has been built up. I suspect too that as an adult, you might be washing your hands more and being more aware of viruses and bacteria spread that way.

you may have built up immunity to all those bad things, so your body fights them now instead of giving into them.
