for goodness sake its only a bit of pot!!! all u people are SOOOOO righteous what the hell has it got to do with u all? Just answer the damm question, she didn't ask for a lecture on drug taking or your opinions on the suitability of her partner! I don't smoke but know plenty of people who do. A friend has just given birth to a very healthy little girl and both her and her partner smoked. It can cause problems in some people but not everyone, i think its more a lottery thing. It would probably help your chances if he could cut it back but its certianly not impossible to concieve if he smokes!!

Ask yourself: do you think a drinking, smoking drug user will be a good father, and a good support for you and your child?
Ask him: is he willing to accept that he can no longer smoke or do drugs in the house, unless he and you want your child to be harmed, or in the worst case taken away by social services? (Secondhand smoke is very harmful to babies and children - adults shouldn't smoke around them.)
If the answer to either of these questions is "no", then however hurtful this sounds, I'm afraid it's a blessing to all concerned if you are having difficulty conceiving.

Ummm why on earth would you want to have a baby with a drug user/smoker/drinker in the first place? What kind of father do you think he'll make????? To answer your question, yes those things do negatively affect the process. Tell him to stop or find a better, more mature man.

yes. pot has been proven to reduce a man's sperm count. besides, you seem pretty straightlaced, do you really think he'd make a good dad when he's a smoking drug and high type of guy? he's not exactly the type i'd want to father my kids. if he isn't clean now, then what makes you think he'll get clean once they're born?
