are you already in Japan?
First thing to do is go through the classifieds in the local newspaper and see what you can find.
Second is troll the internet. The most common jobs are for english instructors.
Third and more hard way is to take your resume door to door and ask to see the HR Manager. If they do not allow that for lack of appointment, drop of your resume with the receptionist.
Good Luck!!

Monster has a work abroad job search function and advice specifically on Japan. See links below. Check the other major job boards, like careerbuilder, for similar tools.
In the meantime, have a friend who does speak the local language make a neat sign for you, offering your English teaching skills. Post it in schools, and in the newspaper. Private tutoring will allow you more flexibility to look for a more permanent job, and also pays better.
You could also consider starting your own online business, where you won’t have to worry about the language.

There are definitely opportunities for you teaching english.
Also, a lot of exchange students come over to study in Japan. There might be something with that you can find work in. Perhap travel agencies as well, working with English speaking tourist groups visiting Japan.

I'd look for jobs with American companies, American embassies, US military bases, etc. in Japan. I'd also start learning Japanese if you're going to stay there a while.
