If people don't exercise the only right they've got to make any input at all, it only suits the ones in power, they'll interpret it as people being happy enough with them, otherwise they would have gone to the trouble to vote.
There seems to be no place left in Europe or North America where people can really choose. All the parties with any chance of being in gouvernment seem to be dominated by the interests of big business and pressure groups.
My own way of protesting is looking for the independent I like best, and vote for him/her. That might not make a difference in the short run, but I'm sure if more people did it, the big parties would have to change.
There's nothing their single member/candidate is more afraid of than losing their cushy jobs, and the leadership will have to take notice if there is enough of that going on. At least one can hope...

Vote for The Tommy Sheridan party ... free Sunbeds and Massage parlour sessions for everyone... there aint no party like Tommy's Swinging party... Seriously though... I can see the BNP snatching votes from some of the main 3 partys - But we are doomed to be ruled by either Labour or Tory.. maybe we should vote for the omrlp.com

The main aim of all political parties is to become the elected leadership and stay in power.
Secondley sort out why they are in power and what they are going to do.
Seems a bit bizaar, originaly people wanted to be in power to make a difference...........but then being an MP was not a career they had a day job as well!

"Is there a Political Party here in the UK who genuinely have the interests of the people and actually care"
...what you actually mean is YOUR interests, and actually care about what YOU care about. And, that being the case, I dont think you can be looking very hard for any party espousing what appeals to you.
It is your entitlement not to vote if you so wish...just dont complain about anything in the future because you will have forfeited the right to contribute.

I think the solution is to join a party and push to make it the kind of organization you'd like to see, one that cares about people etc.
